The Pakistan Physical Society (PPS)

The Pakistan Physical Society was established in 1990. It is a voluntary association of physicists in Pakistan. The Society was formed to pursue the following objectives:

  • To promote and contribute to the advancement of physics and allied fields by designing targeted scientific programs that encourage the active involvement of physicists holding degrees in physics or related fields, using all possible means. These programs may include conferences, workshops, short courses, symposia, and seminars.
  • To recognize and appreciate outstanding researchers and teachers in physics and allied fields through honorary awards in various forms, such as medals and certificates.
  • To help popularize physics and highlight its role in modern technological advancements among the general public of Pakistan.
  • To advocate the contribution of physics and allied fields to economic development by providing professional input in the review of Pakistan’s science policy.
  • To assist the government in developing updated and appropriate curricula for various levels of physics education and to recommend suitable textbooks and reference materials.
  • To support the government in evaluating research and development (R&D) activities in physics and allied fields at all levels.
  • To provide a forum for members to share their research findings at the frontiers of physics and to discuss issues of common scientific interest.
  • To cooperate with international societies and institutions and to facilitate linkages between Pakistani and international organizations for the advancement and promotion of physics.
